Every family deserves to begin their journey with care, connection, and belonging, essential foundations for long-term family health. Families in Vancouver are facing increasing food insecurity, housing instability and social disconnection. At VCBF we focus on improving maternal health equity for families navigating pregnancy and birth.

Founded in 2007, VCBF is the fundraising extension of the South Community Birth Program. As a registered charity, we continue to bridge gaps in care for families who need it most.

Our Mission

is to nurture every new family in a supportive village. Our team of doulas and cultural brokers offers accessible, culturally competent care in 15 languages. From pregnancy to birth and postpartum, we help families navigate this time with confidence and connection.

Our Services

CHILDBIRTH DOULA

A childbirth doula offers non-medical pain management support during the birth, and emotional guidance in a culturally competent way, often referred to as a “cultural broker”.

GROCERY GIFT CARDS

Gift cards can be used for fresh food, maternity wear, baby essentials and pharmacy prescriptions - items not always available through food banks.

TAXI & TRANSPORTATION VOUCHERS

For those without access to a vehicle, we cover transportation to and from the hospital, and sometimes for the first in-office postpartum check-up.

SUBSIDIZED COUNSELLING & PHYSIOTHERAPY

Pelvic floor physio and registered clinical counselling are services often necessary in pregnancy or postpartum. We subsidize and fund these services.

PRENATAL CLASSES

We believe that belonging to a community is an essential component of long-term family health. Our work fosters community and connection through our group Connecting Pregnancy program.

PREGNANCY SUPPLEMENTS & BIRTH SUPPLIES

From TENS pads during labour to iron supplements, we ensure families can access the supplies they need for a healthy pregnancy and birth.

Why it Matters

For many, pregnancy and parenthood can feel isolating. This can be especially true for new immigrants, refugees and low-income families who face multiple barriers to accessing equitable healthcare. That’s where VCBF can help bridge the gap , ensuring that more families can have access to doula care, translation services, counselling, subsidized physiotherapy, and other material support.
